THEORY AND HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST
The theory test is made up of two parts; you will be asked 35 multiple choice questions followed by a test of your hazard perception skills, you will be shown 14 video clips of different hazards . You can score up to 5 points on each developing hazard and there are 15 scoreable hazards.
To pass you must correctly answer 30 or more questions in 40 minutes and score 44 or more out of 75 in the hazard perception test.
( As of 3rd September 2007 ) Theory Test questions will increase from 35 to 50 Pass Mark will increase to 43 out of 50 Time allowed will increase to 57 minutes and fee will increase to £28.50
THE PRACTICAL TEST
At the beginning of the test you will be asked to sign the test report stating the vehicle to be used is properly insured for test purposes, you will then be asked to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres (old plates) or 20 metres (new plates from september 2001 starting with 2 letters eg.AB etc). You will then be asked the show and tell questions regarding vehicle safety checks ( 2 questions). You will then start the driving part of your test which will involve driving in various road conditions with speed limits up to 70MPH,you will also be asked to carry out two manouvers out of the four (turn in th road,parallel parking,bay parking,reverse round a corner) and possibly a controlled stop (emergency stop). The whole test will last approximately 40 minutes.An accumilation of more than 15 minor faults or 1 serious/dangerous fault will result in a fail.A high standered is now expected of learners.
